Granny's gone and done it again

The last time I experienced heat like this was in the 70's out in NW MO when whe had a really big garden and the actual them went to 100+ degrees frequently. I had a friend that was old enough to remember the summer of 1934 when farmers put their beds out on there wrap around porches so they could sleep at night. The farm ponds that cattle drank from dried up and cattle died from lack of water. It didn't get that bad in the 70's but my friend was on guard as bad as it did get.

Yes, I love fall! I have tons of things to do outside!

I took the goats for a walk today, out in the outback. They rarely go out there on their own, because it's pretty far from the barn. But there are a lot more bushes and other plants to eat down that hill. They probably don't like going back up the hill! While I was there, I piled up stacks of branches, kicked off leaves and removed rocks to make piles. So, the start of a new path. Even if the goats are gone, I can use the path to go down to the river to rock hunt.

I did miss the eggs when I didn't have the chickens. Now that I have the chickens, I seen to eat less eggs. But if you stop doing one thing, you you do something Else you enjoy. I didn't have the vegetable garden, and I realized I couldn't eat a lot of vegetables in season. Now I have time to visit with my Downs syndrome niece weekly. No one else can understand her. That's the highlight of her week. I made her a memory game with pictures of the puppies

Missouri heat....much like the Illinois heat I experienced before we moved here only more humid I do believe.

The year we put electricity in our home summer was one for the records. I remember it being somewhere around 104 and with the heat index higher than that. We had to trench for the power line to go from the pole meter to the house so we got up at 5, went out to use the tractor trencher then the shovels. By the time the sun came up we went back inside to run lines. The heat in the attic had to be around 120. DH went up to position the lines then I pulled them from the main floor. By 10AM we were cooked. Had a Genny that we ran an electric fan with during the heat of the day. We set in the shop where the concrete floor kept it cool. Went back to work about 6pm. It took us about a week to get things ready for the big power switch to get turned on by the CO-OP. When they did the first thing we turned on was the AC.

Bliss is the only word for it. We made it through that summer, we can make due with 90-95 degrees any day.

So very tired today. I need hay, but idk if I have the energy. While I was gone yesterday , Bee, the pregnant goat beat her way out of the stall, knocked over the garbage can with feed in it. Idk how much she or the other goats ate. I was hoping to not have to buy more feed.

Bumper crop of mint this year. have Peppermint, Wintergreen and Spearmint. We are enjoying glasses of mint tea right now.

I have spearmint, peppermint, sweet mint and ... chocolate mint! Which is really strong! I didn't dry as much as I'd hoped to this year and now it's all bolting.

Gotta go make egg salad sandwiches for dinner, speaking of eggs.

She has autism too. So her Mom can use the time to rest when she visits with me.
