Shelties also herd, are very active, chase things and can be hard-headed and stubborn. I believe you've seen pictures of Sammy, my Sheltie, sharing worms with my chickens. Goldens are bird dogs. My Jenny also shares worms with the birds. Both are 100% reliable with our chickens. You know I taught basic obedience for over 15 years, right?
lol..no, I didn't know you trained. Maybe you said but my brain forgot if so. I trained too. :)
I remember your Sheltie. Good job!
I've had three Golden Retrievers, all while I had chickens. Non chased my chickens. I guess because they're water dogs. Ducks. Jumping in to retrieve a duck. Ha, I'm thinking not too many Goldens are used for that now days. My Goldens weren't even interested in water. Breeding now days??
I fostered a German Wirehaired Terrier. Smart boy. And, I got the best photo of him pointing at my chickens through their run. When I sent that photo in to the place I was Fostering for, a gal came right over. She had some folks looking for a hunting dog, in Colorado. While we were at the table signing papers for me to release him, that dog had been sitting there watching us. All of a sudden he came over and put his head in my lap. Looked up at me like he was saying, please, let me stay. Those eyes looking up at me. 🥺 The gal saw this and hurried back to writing. I think she was worried about a failed foster. This one certainly would have been if I didn't already have my own few. Loved that boy. Jack was what we called him.
