Granny's gone and done it again

I have a little game I play with the Legbar pullets. Hens Mid July. I pinch small pieces of fresh bread and toss it up over them to see which one catches it in mid air. They are getting better at it. For treats I got them a 40lb bag of sunflower seed which only one or two of them will eat. Next I got a bag of layer pellets with prebiotics and probiotics and they love love that.

I'm getting up to give DH pain medicine during the night. I don't mind it if it's keeping him comfy.... It's just so hard to go back to sleep. The packing/dressing change was out of this world painful but it will get easier, I just don't know when. The sight of the surgical cut without stitches, well, I will try to lock it out of my memory. It too shall get better and shrink as it heals
My son with Spina Bifida had to have surgery after surgery on a front wound that wouldn't heal. Being paralyzed from the waist down, a stitch or two would open and eventually allow infection back in.
Finally, the surgeon decided to just leave it open and allow it to heal from inside ..up. This opening was across his whole front lower stomach area. He gave me instructions as to how to change it. I hadn't seen it yet. I went to change the packing. I just gasped. I thought, if he was a woman, I'd be seeing a uterus! It was so deep! I also thought, I can't do this. :( I had done so many different surgery bandage changes, but nothing like this. I called the Dr. the next day. He said, well, I can close it if you want, but you know what's been going on with stitches that open up, and it will happen again. I knew. So, I decided to keep doing it. It got easier as I got more used to seeing it.
Then..it started to heal. The Dr. never explained to me how it would look. I got very concerned as it began to look like browned hamburger meat! I thought it should have stayed pink. Off to the Children's Hospital we went. Drs looked. They said looks like it's healing great. 😯
Ok. Took weeks but it healed up to the top and closed. It was good for a long time.
Richard..sits..in a chair all day long. Tummy flap. He's now having sores again. He goes to a clinic for them to take care of it or they come to him. At least they're not as bad as before.
He also had a pilonidal cyst in the back bottom area. This is something anyone that sits for a long period of a time can get. Like all those people sitting, working at a computer all day. Bronwyn has a nice table that will lift up so she can stand and type at times.

Wound care is a nursing skill that I really learned to enjoy. There is a real challenge and a real thrill when you mark a ghastly wound healed.

@BigBlueHen53 congratulations to your graduate. My college graduation meant much more to me than high school. Taking the Florence Nightingale oath along with a form of the Hippocratic oath and realizing what I had accomplished meant more to me than a high school diploma where I felt like another brick in the wall.

Hi guys. Didn't do much yesterday. I was just exhausted so laid around on the sofa all day. I did venture into the cattle dog half of the house yesterday for the first time since my surgery. Bless them they greeted me, sniffed my abduction sling and shoulder then treated me gently as if they knew I was damaged.

Today DH had a doctors appointment in Macon. Got that out of the way and did some shopping before coming home around noon.

Had 2 inches of rain overnight and lost power for 2 hours. By the time it was back on it was time for bed.

Heading out now to feed and water the birds before dinner

Got the hospital bed today, thanks to Granny! Has 2 video appointments today and one yesterday. The insurance company also has home health nurses that call after DH has been in the hospital. They make sure he has all durable health care pieces he needs and give tips for the wound vac machine. And any other tips that pertain to his care. I might not be getting much done but it does feel very good to have all that support

It's definitely a special skill, and a gift.

Thank you!

We're hoping he graduates college, of course, but we're really happy he made this milestone.

Animals seem to have that special sense, don't they? :love
