Granny's gone and done it again

I Thought if you married an American citizen you auto became a "legal" ? Too many movies ?
Yep. I had to go through this whole process of getting what's called a k1 visa (fiancé visa). That took a little over a year (though there was some delay on my end due to my house not selling...) and that just gave me the visa so I could cross the border with intent to stay. (They don't take kindly to you just hopping across the border with a uhaul full of crap otherwise lol). From there, we had 90 days to get married and file for an "adjustment of status" - now in filing this, I also filed for my employment authorization docs and what's called advanced parole - which would allow me to leave the country and be granted a better chance of being let back in. (They did use the scare tactics on that that it does not guarantee you re-entry.). Give you an idea of timeline - hubs and I crossed the border June 2nd, got hitched in August and I got my EAD/AP combo card end of November. Could not legally work or do anything until then. Also couldn't get on hubs' health insurance cause didn't have a social security #. The joys. So the following February we had to go downtown and do an interview for my "conditional" green card. So this green card is only good for two years. That expired this February, you can only file to "remove conditions" within 90 days of your conditional GCs expiration. Well, we were in the middle of escrow woes so I waited until after we closed to file to remove conditions. So...January. Oops. Was pushing it a bit close.

Of course they cashed the check no problem and sent me a letter saying hey guess what we're pushing the expiration of your green card back a year so you're good!

(But I really do not trust that piece of paper for a border crossing.)

Haven't heard anything since then.

And even though yeah I married an American citizen, we still had to prove our relationship is real and valid...have joint bills/finances/etc. and had to prove again for the removal of conditions. Not sure if they'll make us go in for another meeting again or not...time will tell.

Night y'all. I've got to jump up early and drive the truck to big town. Hopefully donate some stuff, then a bit of shopping for the camp and the home. Fingers crossed that I can find some cheap treasures too! I need a book shelf for DD's room.

Oh, also I'll be wrangling both kids the entire time. :highfive:

good night camping SDWF and prayers.
