Oh my, look at the time. It's almost 3:30am and I am still up. Why? you ask. Because tonight, after dark, I moved the garage pullets out to the big girl coop. All went well, very successful, but after I came in and sat down, I felt something creeping on my wrist, and guess what... a mite. Now I don't often use the H word. I keep it for really abhorrent things, but I HATE mites. Got a flashlight and went out to check, and sure enough, mite explosion. And I don't have any flea spray, but I couldn't sleep knowing the hens were going to get all eaten up, so I took a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and killed as many as I could. Spent a long time out there with my flashlight and spray bottle. I discovered their evil mite den in the 2 cardboard nest boxes on the floor... newly hatched mites were crawling all over them. Took the boxes out to the garbage can, sprinkled in half a can of poultry dust, and shut the lid. Then of course I took a scalding hot shower, with lye soap and bleach... well, not quite, but I am CLEAN, and clothes are tied up tight in a plastic garbage bag until they get washed tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, which is really today, right now, I have to go buy flea spray and Frontline. No sign of mites in the Serama coop, but I'm not taking any chances, and getting 2 bottles of spray. The Mite War continues when the sun comes up!!!

This rainy weather makes my rheumatism flare up, but we sure needed the rain and the cool weather so I'm saying Hallelujah

we got lots of rain too..a river runs thru it best describes my hen's run...

Good morning sweet peeps. Just popping in for more coffee before getting back out to get ready for more rain. Must have sprinkled more after yesterday's short but intense storm. Still dripping out there. Forecast says scattered showers rest of the week and rain this weekend. Caulking and maybe paint on henhouse if the popup showers hold off. Fall planning and planting of garden underway. Cleaning up build site debris. Need to cut pop door, build ramp, put up more HC around run after it is in its final spot. Want to lay out planting beds along it too. Need to build a permanent step up into henhouse. Trim on henhouse eventually. Lots to do! I best get busy again! Y'all have a great day!
