the 2 quarts of chicken broth I got today, I put old lids on them in rinsed out jars , set them upside down for 5 min. , flipped them and they sealed. I put them in the fridge anyway.

GREAT idea , personally I never trust used lids UNLESS they are going in a fridge.

LOL I usually have 2 canners going when doing a water bath type and they ALWAYS are done at different times so not so much sitting and waiting.

I do with hot water bath, but this is my pressure cooker & have 2 but not enough room on my stove for a second one because I have to have a big tea kettle of boiling water for the jars of beans. Hence the reason I've always wanted a commercial 6 burner range.

Let's just say that when someone else was buying, preparing, & serving the meals, it behooved all of us kids to eat it, whether we liked it or not.

I wasnt expecting them to seal. Wasnt trying to. frankly, it didnt taste very good.

Ya I wouldn't trust a used lid either. It's to much work to have the food spoil on you if they unseal. In the fridge is fine though.

Oh I used to and sometime still do cheat and use one of those 2 burner electric hot plate things for my extra water and lids. Then the whole stove top is open for canners.
