Granny's gone and done it again

Always heard you are supposed to put cold water in to thaw the bird. Your fridge must be set very cold.

they (all 3) are not sure of the temp. It seems to be thawing now and I put it back in the fridge at least for the night. Stupid packaging doesn't say if the giblets are included or not. So I need to get in to it and see. If not I can pull out some chicken gizzards but sort of need to know.

I did that one time... thought the thing was thawed... it was nice and squishy and the leg joint moved. Opened it up and the cavity was a solid ice cube! The giblets were up in the neck, also mostly frozen. We gave it a warmish bath to speed things along as it was supposed to be going in the oven right then.

Turkey I got from Safeway was a good deal. 69 cents a pound with a $25 purchase. Thing is. when I got to the register, the guy was messing around trying to figure out the proper code to enter so the discount would be applied. I was very patient, of course,

and got my discount. Hubs was looking at the turkey in the fridge the other day and said it is already thawed. ??? How could that be? Well, says on the packaging it is a "fresh" turkey! Never was hard frozen. Those are much more expensive. No wonder he had to finagle the discount code.

The packaging looked exactly like the frozen ones, except for that one word (plastered hugely across the front) and they were all mxied together. I didn't even know there were 2 types. Why would they do that? Make the package the same?

Well, the checker didn't know either, apparently. Kind of feel like I have a contraband turkey.
