Granny's gone and done it again

Our "tradition" is a real struggle for me. I want pjs and slippers, books and movies, a stocking full of treats, etc. for the kids. DH wants 3 gifts tops, no stockings, no pjs. We fight about it every single year. Maybe by year 20 we'll get it figured out.

We did all our gifts on Christmas eve after Swedish Meatball dinner and then went to midnight mass. Next morning there were the full stockings and 1 HUGE(most expensive) gift from Santa.

I am Camping, Your dad is a Methodist preacher right ?  How/why did he not celebrate Christmas on the 25th?

We celebrate the birth of Christ. On Christmas Eve (at my grandmas) he would read the Christmas story from the bible and serve communion.

The Christmas tree has something to do with a phallus for a pagan god than lost his somehow and the golden balls are the testicles. There was a cassette tape lecture we listened to at Christmas. Not every year, but enough. :/

I put up a thrift store silver tinsel tree in college and didn't tell him. I felt so weird and dirty, I guess it was guilt. Even now I don't decorate with santas or snowmen unless they were given to me. I still stick to angels, stars, and nativities.

I know the tree is a pagan thing but never thought it was that dirty of a pagan thing :gig pine trees for many Celtic pagan religions have numerous meanings and uses.

What ??

I remember being so broke if my kids needed toothpaste it went in the stocking.  hahaa

Our first Christmas together I splurged on a $1 felt stocking and I painted "the shaws" on it. We had $5 to spend on each other. I bought him bubble gum, can't remember the rest.
