Granny's gone and done it again

Those are just general designations for areas of the US, mostly starting when the country was new and following expansion from the original 13 colonies. country expanded territories to the south and west, but up north was already taken by the French, so our focus was west and south.

North is always up on a map, no matter what country is there. ey?

but if your in Fl. then Ga. isnt considered north is it ? I mean, I know I would have to drive north to get there but it isnt THE north.

correct. north, south, east, west are directions. those names on the map refer to a general area. South Dakota is south of North Dakota, but it's not in "the south." ow, brain ache

Then how am I supposed to know where I live ? am I in the north ?
