Granny's gone and done it again

I go by Alley or Alex. My real name is Alexandra, but it's mostly just a name for paperwork or when I'm in trouble

LOL I will keep that in mind.

Granny, we went to the memorial for the murdered boy today. They rented a hall, and it was full of people, tables, and lots of food. A big list showed donors from the community that pitched in to supply everything. It was like a big banquet. They had a screen with pictures and videos of Kirk, and everyone was chatting and remembering... very nice. We didn't know anyone except the parents. Jennifer was holding up really well and seemed very happy to see us, especially #1, who towers over her now. I didn't know it at the time, but Jennifer chose Kirk's preschool because of #1. She brought Kirk to check it out, and the next thing she knew he was getting a ride on the back of #1's trike. Soon as she saw that, the decision was made and Kirk started at that preschool and the two boys became good friends for many years. Both she and her husband were particularly touched by the card #1 sent them... guess it took them back to happier times... particularly the father, who had tears in his eyes when #1 gave him a hug goodbye. I guess seeing the progression from 4 years to 18 was pretty profound, and the fact that Kirk will not be here to continue on into adulthood while #1 will... no words for the loss. Both Jennifer and I regretted more than ever that we didn't try harder to keep in touch over the years. She is a SCUBA instructor, and I'm thinking maybe #2 can start his certification with her... take the written tests and do the practice in the swimming pool. We'll see.

After we left, driving in the car, hubs and I both let out a huge sigh at the same time. We were both thinking the same thing... poof, just like that, he's gone.

There but for the grace of god...

Also, the dad said that the police were narrowing the search and he expected there would be an arrest at some point. It was not a random crime. This all happened at the end of October. Kirk had just turned 18 two weeks before he disappeared.
