Granny's gone and done it again

I check more than 3 times a day if I'm home. Mostly because I'm trying to get to the eggs before the dang jays get them.

Hubs set up the Ninja Turtle cam in the coop to see if it really is jays egg eating, or if it's a bad hen. Last 2 years, we've caught jays being bad.

would a fake crow or whatever scares them on top of the coop help ? Jays are one of my favorite birds. Mom hated them . Said they will rob every nest they can find.

The adult Blue Jay has a smaller amount of predators to worry about than it's young, but it still has quite a lot. These are most of it's main predators:

- Brown-headed Cowbird
- Hawks
- domestic dogs and cats
- Adult mob hawks
- large snakes
- raccoons
- large owls

My columbian orps from papas all are colored different I have two hens and two hens. They are pretty. One is broody now. One rooster is very strange he is in with polish roosters. He is low man in the pecking order. Acts depressed but he was horrible with girls. The orps shouldn't be with my small hens.

My tobundt rooster without a top knot is beautiful but....

  • Wind Chimes
  • A fake owl
  • A realistic rubber snake (like a cotton mouth)
  • Get a cat (this has already proven to be a source of entertainment for the birds, not a means to rid the yard of them)
  • Change the food in your bird feeder, if you have one in the yard
  • Children’s windmills
One Web site even offered up a CD that can be played in the yard that guarantees it will chase away Blue Jays from the first time it’s played. Also, if you get a fake owl or rubber snake it needs to be moved often to create a “realistic” predator.

We have scrub jays and Steller's jays here. No blue jays. It's the scrub jays that do it. Crows only come to nest in the spring, if the jays don't chase them away. Crows aren't interested in the coops so far.

They are beautiful. I would probably feed my eggs to get them to hang around. LOL
