Granny's gone and done it again

Welp I'm off to bed. Only 3 days of work this week and then spring break for a few days. I hope the next 3 days fly by. Good night guys

Just noticed you hit 1000 posts and are now obsessed ! LOL

Granny, sorry about your little chick.

I was worried about my new little Wellie biting at the Lorp's face and beak, but she seems to have stopped today. I changed out their cage today, much easier to use the old guinea pig cage, now that it's no longer occupied. Bleached it carefully to make sure there were no left over germs. I set up a heating pad tent for them and they love it... like going under mama. They are so quiet at night and during the day, because HP Mama is always there, warm and safe. No lights at night means they sleep. win win! I am fortunate to have an old heating pad that doesn't have auto shut off after 2 hrs as most of the new ones do. Took pics, but haven't put them on the computer yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Shower time for me. Back in a bit (if you are still up).

I have been wanting to make one of those. Don't they get dirty? How do you clean them?

Quote: I have wrapped the pad in an old t-shirt, cover it with paper towels, or draped pieces of old flannel sheets on top. They like to climb on top, just like a real broody. The heating pad itself is plastic, so it can be wiped off, and the cover that came with it is polyester and washes out clean. There are a couple of old threads about them. I think it is the most natural way to raise them, but it is messy, like you say, and it is tricky for more than a few chicks the way I do it. For lots of chicks, you would need to set it up like the Brinsea Ecoglow and raise it up as they grow.

Another idea I am considering is a ceramic heat emitter bulb. Gives off heat without light. Same danger issues as a regular bulb, and you can't tell by looking when the bulb is dead.
Pricey too. Online is the cheapest.

My little bantam chicks always try to hid under the bigger chicks so I thought getting a feather duster would be great. Couldn't find one anywhere! So I bought one of the feather scarf things at dollar tree and hung it up. It's a hit! Even the bigger ones are going under it.

My chicks used the same thing and loved it.

Had a good day yesterday. Church, then to DD for Easter egg hunt & bday cake for oldest DD bday. She is 37 today. Beautiful day today. Only got 4 eggs yesterday. I think something is eating them. Snake or chickens? Gd's dog hunted eggs & ate 3. It was fun to watch her, GD & gd's friend hunt eggs.

Think I might be in a mood this am. so far, dog is on my nerves, DH is on my nerves, I only had one cup of coffee. BTW, squirt bottle works on both of them.
