I was big into speckled sussex a couple years back. Happened on a quad of nice birds for $35. Started breeding toward the standard (as best I could) started getting loyal customers and a good reputation. Then our newly adopted dog killed my roo. I was heartbroken, couldn't afford a worthy replacement, and sold off all the rest to a lady I knew would love them. When I get a ranch someday I'll spring for more.

These little banties have surprised me! They've managed to evade the hawk that picked off an adult guinea cock and full-sized chicken pullets. She's the only one like that, though. The others are orangey, one solid and one with partridge markings and a few white spots. The cock is orangey with speckles. I have two silver laced pullets and a gold laced pullet in quarantine.

Did you ever get the hens tails down to 30 degrees? That is my biggest battle with mine.

I lucked into pretty decent stock. My roo had a white wing feather that always put me in a bad mood. I was only a few generations into being serious. I was also extremely new to chickens and had no clue what I was doing.
