Oh, it will kill them, just not fast enough to stop an infestation or be of any realistic use.

If it gets slightly wet..even from mist in the air it will NOT kill them.
I have read thousands of posts here about people saying they use a lot of DE in the nest box and still have mites crawling around in the DE.

It kills them eventually. DE is a desiccant. It works by scratching the exoskeleton of the insect, which allows internal fluids to escape, so they kind of bleed to death. It can take a while. Long enough for them to go off and lay more eggs. Best thing I have ever used for (red roost) mites is flea spray on the coop and roosts. On the birds, best thing had been Frontline.
