Poultry lice. Have been for a year or more. My coop has so many crevices that they just pop up again. I'm buying permethrin spray and drenching all the birds before they go to the new coop. Once 1 week before, and once when I move them. I know it isn't necessary with spray but I'm going to war on these things.
My healthiest birds have maybe one or two visible and little debris, but I have some older and failing birds I want to keep too. Those have heavy loads that keep coming back.
I just got that.Ugh. I haven't dealt with those. Mine are the red roost mites. Evil little things. Got this stuff from the feed store, labeled for use on chickens, concentrated so mix your own... more concentrated for spraying the coop, less concentrated for spraying the birds. A lot cheaper than buying something already mixed and it worked great. Sprayed the whole coop and haven't seen a healthy mite since. Did not have to spray the birds. This was under $10, I made a half gallon and only used a tiny bit. Good stuff.
