I used alotta eggs last week to batter okra.

I cleaned up a bit in the coop and put fresh hay in the nests. Herkey approves!

Here's a couple pullets I have, too. One is Texas, one is part hona.

Hi Grannyland ~ @campingshaws glad you are feeling better today. Is it possible it was your sinuses? Every time mine get bad they give me a ear ache, a sore throat from them draining & a toothache because my sinuses are so low that it effects the nerves in my teeth. @CapricornFarm sure hope your sinus infection clears with this round of antibiotics. As a former nurse I'm sure your aware that it's not uncommon for sinus infections to take a second antibiotic clear up. I would go in to be seen again with that ear drainage though. @jane s chickens great job getting your pens set up. It's a lot of work having multiple breeds to seperate. I have decided to get away from that. I'm tired of all the roo's & their issues. Will hopefully be butchering them on Friday. I will be keeping a couple. I have 2 FBCM roo's that I need to grow out to see who will stay & who will go. I also have a couple juvie's over in the layer coop that are looking more roo-ish with every passing day. Mind you, that's not counting the 10 Serama roo's that need to grow some before I decide who I will keep & who will be rehomed. Fridays butchering will at least reduce them by 10, plus I will be butchering some older hens too. @KikisGirls I sure hope you are still safe & that your house is not flooded. @granny hatchet can you purchase another charger cord for your computer? And how are you feeling today? I remember reading a post of yours the other day that said you didn't know how you were going to be able to grocery shop with 5 kids because they are supposed to always be with you. Go when all the older kids are in school so you only have to take the baby. Robert & Tom can be in store babysitters lol. @Dannachic ~ Hope all is well with you hun, miss you everytime your on. I was wondering if you would be terribly heart broken if I put my Swedish Flower roo down? I know granny has mentioned you want some Swedish Flower hens. I'm thinking one of my juvie's is a roo so there would be a possibility of hatching eggs by Spring. @twisted-acres-farm ~ how do you can your own chicken broth? I want to do that with these birds I process, but I want to make sure & do it right. I know Ive forgotten people & stuff, but it's all I can remember lol. And just for chits & giggles, here is my Swedish Flower roo pretending to be one of those birds without a rump His dang girls have picked his butt bare again this year, lol.

Star, I have 34 chickens, 25 layers, so 10 eggs isn't good. Ate baked sweet tator & cheese quesadilla for lunch.

Jane, I have around 30 layers & as of a week & a half ago I was getting only 5/6 a day. Many have been molting, but this week I've gotten 10/12 a day. The threats of freezer camp must have helped with some lol.

I think mine have started molting. I've only been getting 1-2 eggs a day from my 6 girls. Ethel had a big bald spot on her chest/throat and butt. Davey is missing all his pretty tail feathers. Then today I get 6 eggs!

I'm good, just been lazy in the house today. How are you? The soup sounds good! My family has a bland taste in soups so I'm always wowed when you guys talk about your fancy soups!

I think them darn birds have a mind of their own. Mine have always laid better thru the winter than summer. Of course, because in the winter I don't have to people around for egg sales. Come summer when everyone is wanting eggs mine pert near stopped laying grr....

Nothing fancy here, just chicken broth, a pint of medium salsa, a qrt of canned tomatoes, onion, celery, great Northern beans, black beans, corn, chicken bullion & shredded chicken. Will thicken just a bit towards serving time. Think I will make Johny cake (corn bread) to go with it.

Ooh I need to find a good recipe for chicken fajita soup. I used to make it with this premade broth that I can't find anymore that was seasoned perfectly for the task.

But blooming heck. Triple digits is too hot for soup anyway.

Bright side, "fat red" who had been moulting for months and looking like heck...her neck feathers are growing back in. Yay!

Though with this heat I'm sure she'd rather stay a quasi naked neck...
