Hardly any rain today. I just went and caught the feral banty cochins from the other side of camp. They've been loose for about a month, no food or water. They're finding their own food and shelter and all look great! Keepers for sure.

That's where my jar of homemade salsa fills in. Gives it a great flavor, not too hot, just right.Ooh I need to find a good recipe for chicken fajita soup. I used to make it with this premade broth that I can't find anymore that was seasoned perfectly for the task.
But blooming heck. Triple digits is too hot for soup anyway.
Bright side, "fat red" who had been moulting for months and looking like heck...her neck feathers are growing back in. Yay!
Though with this heat I'm sure she'd rather stay a quasi naked neck...
I think mine heard I was gonna have to thin them out again.I think them darn birds have a mind of their own. Mine have always laid better thru the winter than summer. Of course, because in the winter I don't have to people around for egg sales. Come summer when everyone is wanting eggs mine pert near stopped laying grr....
Wow, that's awesome camping. My Cochin/EE mix is like that. Very good birds, great broody momma's as wellHardly any rain today. Sure wish I could stretch my feed that far. I feed fermented feed so no waste, but I've got so many darn birds right now that I'm going thru like 4-50 bags a weekI think mine heard I was gonna have to thin them out again.I just went through 50lbs of feed in 2 weeks. And that's only 12 birds and a cat eating lol
Chicks and bantams are getting chick crumble.
My oldest ones just turned 1 year last month but they haven't laid as well in the heat either.
Nothing fancy here, just chicken broth, a pint of medium salsa, a qrt of canned tomatoes, onion, celery, great Northern beans, black beans & shredded chicken. Will thicken just a bit towards serving time. Think I will make Johny cake (corn bread) to go with it.

It's fancier than out of a can lol I don't care much for soup but once in a awhile I crave it! A good soup not canned stuff from the store.
That soup I'd eat! It sounds delicious! Thank you, it is
Hardy little critters!
Ya they free range right out of the garden. I just can't let them out because I had bobcat coming in killing them. I grow specific veggies for them, plus they get all the farm stands limp veggies.Do you free range too?
