it can affect all types of apple tree's IF I read it right. Definitely NOT A GOOD THING

its a fungus that travels from evergreen to apple trees. effects the fruit on apple trees "rust"

Caused by a fungus and it's not easy to get rid of. Cut the galls off and throw them in the garbage. If they're left on the tree, they will "bloom" in the spring and spread their spores all over. There are anti-fungal sprays you can get, but it's a lot of work.
