Granny's gone and done it again

DD and bubba each asked Santa for “one thing” and neither got it. They had lots of things “from Santa” on Christmas morning but not the ONE THING they had each asked for. For some reason they thought these gifts would be waiting when they got home. Their poor little faces... bubba asked if they didn’t get the gifts because they were naughty. Broke my heart.

DD wanted the Barbie dream horse, over $100 at Christmas. It’s down to $80 now but still just way too expensive. Maybe I’ll look for a cheaper alternative? I just don’t know.

Bubba wanted a gorilla track for his hot wheels cars. $10 in the store, but apparently it’s the thing that everyone wanted this year. I couldn’t find one anywhere, and they were over $200 on eBay. :rant
Oh dear. Reality rears it's ugly head, and they're so young. But they will survive because the time with family is more important. I always told the kids to have a few choices for their Santa wish list, just for that reason.

That’s a good idea. They asked for other things from other people, but only asked Santa (and the elf) for that one special thing, so by the time I found out it was way too late. My bff said she did the same thing as a kid and her parents had to take her to a mall Santa so they could figure out what she wanted. Guess I’ll have to start encouraging letters the day after thanksgiving.

PINKY-PURPLE POOP UPDATE!
It's okay if you skip this... I will not be having a quiz.:D

I have found one interesting thing about colored urates from an article about parrots. (The normally white part of the poop are the urates. It takes the place of urine in birds so they don't have to carry around all the water urine takes. Makes for easier flying.)
http://www.avianenrichment.com/learn/physical-needs/health/get-the-scoop-on-poop
so IN PARROTS:
  • red or brown urates are indicative of metal poisoning
  • green or yellow urates or urine can be an indicator of liver disease or infection.

Some other obscure ebook discussing solid urine (urates) in reptiles mentions that adding some type of ammonia (a drop of strong liquor ammonia) to uric acid turns it a "magnificent purple tint." Uric acid is found in urates, so if there was also ammonia present, maybe that turned the white to purple. All those chemistry classes I took were long ago, so if anyone can figure out of this is relevant to why my chickens were pooping purple, please explain. Do tape worms release ammonia? maybe?

link to the ebook. Hahaaaa! It's hard enough to understand this stuff, but a book from 1872 adds a whole new layer of difficulty. It's called THE URINE AND ITS DERANGEMENTS. :lau

Excellent find!

Excellent find!
Kathy, from the quick search I did, it seems many parasitic organisms produce ammonia, including tape worms, so there is a possibility that's what caused the purple urate. I have reached my limit on eww so think I will have to be content with that explanation! :p

My easter egger stopped laying for about a month give or take a couple days. She is now back to laying an egg a day. Does that seem normal?
Hens will stop laying temporarily for many reasons like changes to their environment including food, weather, flock make up, predator threat, being moved. To stop for a month sounds more like your chicken was molting. Often the energy for laying eggs goes into feather production during a molt. At this time of year with very short days, the lack if sunlight can also inhibit egg laying.
It might also be age related... they slow down with age. How old is your EE?

Maybe you can find a second hand horse. Tell the little guy he can have it when you find it at regular prices.
Do they both still believe in Santa? In some ways it is sad because if they want something so expensive you can’t afford it. Not sure what the answer is. I guess have them put more than one thing down.
