New Hamps and Lorps have always been my recommendations. I think Lorps would be most popular if they weren't black... people don't like the black pin feathers on a dressed bird. They have the most beautiful iridescent feathers though, so I love them black.

Do rocks have big combs ?
Mine have smallish combs, are decent layers, but not great, and the eggs are not very big for how much food they eat.

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone is fine and dandy. Nice weather here. Suns shining and working it's way up into the upper 60's today. Supposed to be 80 degrees on Monday. Slight chance of rain for the next week.
Daughter woke me up with a phone call this morning. She was sitting on the side of the road waiting for the sheriff's department to come out. A dog had ran out in front of her on the way home from work and she was unable to avoid it. Tore the bumper up on her new car. That'll probably be about 2 thousand to replace with a thousand dollars deductible. The dog was in the middle of the road still alive but couldn't move. They called animal control and they came and picked it up. Fortunately my daughter works with all these people. Animal control said the dog may survive. The dog had tags and had almost gotten shot last night for chasing goats across the street from where he got run over
Glad she wasn't hurt, but what a pain to have to deal with fixing a car. Seems the dog owners should be paying her deductible.
I've told my boys, don't go off the road to avoid hitting an animal. Off the road around here is very dangerous.

after the killers I am just not willing to take the chance. on a sex link, nothing like loosing 40 to 50 chicks in a single day to put a person off them for life.
I had a gold sexlink that was a wonderful layer, huge eggs and lovely calm sweet girl. They are a lighter gold-orange rather than red. Not the same as a golden comet either. Don't know what hatchery they are from, but if you ever try a sexlink, gold is a good one. They're the only ones my feed store gets in regularly as started pullets. Sexlinks are known for being docile, so I think your queens from that hatchery got some bad genetics going on.

I really need to move birds around in the spring. Maybe build a new coop. I dreamed about a purple coop last night.
I dreamed about a harlequin hamster last night. I was mad it had been neutered because i wanted to develop a strain of them.

pretty sure they breed true so yes, should have all buff.
Well that will be easy to tell at hatch then. I think I read that crossing colors black is dominant. So I might end up with buff and black chicks lol

that would be cool! Next project cap! Lol

and even then out of the 25 I ordered I still got a MALE, although truth be told one of the nicest roo's I have ever had around here.
What breed is he?

use the big one. Put a broody in there with them. Then you won’t have to worry about the lamp blowing as much.
brilliant! Easy with the little serama mamas too.

you think one broody will take 4 chicks ?
They will try!

Lost the white silkie. It either choked on food or got strangled by a hatchmate. Had food in its mouth and head over the feed plate.
Aw, too bad. It probably choked. Birds have a different anatomy than us... very hard to strangle. Found this out from an avian vet holding a parakeet around it's neck. Said it can breathe just fine.

Nope, hamsters don't tolerate cold temps and i have never seen a multi colored one. I must have been thinking about that bunny i bought.
