How do you make corned beef and cabbage?

I do the corned beef in a crock pot /slower cooker and the cabbage separate either by steaming or in the microwave. But then I don't like my cabbage to taste like corned beef you can do your carrots with the cabbage if you making those as well.

cover meat half way w/ water and sprinkle the season packet over the fat so it will be easy to scrape off. Let the meat sit for 15 min so it slices against the grain
