Granny's gone and done it again

needles! :barnie 3 weeks sounds like a reasonable time to wean to me. :gig
back when pups were weened at 4-5 weeks . As soon as they ate a bite of food and sometimes before . Somewhere down the road it became acceptable to ween them at 6 weeks and they seem to do ok. It is still like that in many places. Then someone discovered what you said about socialization and now their are rules/laws in place for 8 weeks. You being Ca. are probably right on top of those rules but many are not.

I think the best time is when the mama weans them herself. Doesn't mean they have to be taken away.

I think it depends on each dog and what your getting the dog for. LGS dogs, if the mama are protecting a flock then it stands to reason you would want your pup to hang with her for up to 4 months but if mama has bad learned behaviors pull them early. I know after 4 months their socialization is set in stone.

I heard yall bad mouthing cockers the other day and I will tell you, Star is the perfect dog. I have never in my life met a dog as smart, gentle and willing to please as she is. She used to be nervous around kids but the GKs made sure she got over that. Never had her on a leash and she heeled auto no matter where we went. Still does even in the house. Not an aggressive bone in her body.
I would never bad mouth Star... too busy saying bad things about that beast, Bandit!
