What I read was female flowers, so no need for another tree. Also they can be grown in containers in cooler zones.

That's good about the hand warmers.
There are 2 types of persimmons. One is a HUGE tree tons of fruit. The Fuyu type is a smaller tree, modest fruit (with flat bottoms), I like the taste better, and they are pretty in the fall.
