Granny's gone and done it again

Josie has been dropped off. We left about 5:45 and had plenty of time to spare. I even turned around to go back to look at a flock of roseate spoonbills in the crawfish fields, and I pulled over for pics. They’re not sharp because I was zoomed in all the way. Pretty birds.

Wishing, I am all for teaching a man to fish, problem is the school can’t do it all. These kids are not being taught at home the skills they need. I see so many that watch their parents just take, take ,take, never give back to the community. They have just never been taught or somewhere it just got broken. It really is sad.
Another reason why schools are important - to make up for the lack.
I don’t mind paying my share if it benefits society as a whole (taxes going to education, healthcare etc)
But hey. I’m just the little socialist here - as my boss affectionately calls me.

Got woken up at 5:30 by puking dog. Sigh. She seems to be feeling better now.

Unfortunately they don't always cover the "necessities of life" the kids may not get at home. For instance *I* think one shouldn't be able to graduate HS without passing a class in personal finance. I guess some schools here offer it as an elective. Well shoot, if the parents haven't got a clue they sure aren't going to pass that "knowledge" on to the kids.

lol EXCEPT techinally I don't believe you can have over 100% of anything as that should be the max.
Unless the teacher gives bonus question on tests. If you get all the regular answers right, correct answers on the bonus questions put you over 100% :D

How can humidity be 77% and its raining ?
Rain comes out of the clouds above, humidity is how much moisture the air is holding.

So do I pretend he hasnt asked or tell him its his umpteenth time asking that ?
Forget he asked before and answer again. I think telling him he already asked is just frustrating for him. Watching your mind (and that of a loved one) go south is horrible.

Hubby talking about getting them to put in a bathtub!
Um, he doesn't get that these guys are nearly useless? WHY would he want them on the property again once they EVENTUALLY finish the goat house?

True enough Bruce. But still...learning in other fields too I guess.

So noticed something strange. Missing plants. One is one of the lantanas I just planted...okay maybe rabbits ate it? The other...was my wandering lilac which was a good size. What the hey?!?

good morning all

Well according to the paper the School mill rate hike went down 2 to 1 , they wanted to raise the mills for one part from 10 to 20 for the "rainy day fund"

We are still paying for the 65 MILLION DOLLAR middle school. City also just spent 30 million (a couple years ago) on a new water treatment plant and EVERY ONE uses the bathroom.

Over half of the property taxes collected by city and county already go to education PLUS the state contribution

I just get mad because they added football last year so they need all the equipment and field stuff. But they cut people’s positions the last 2 years because they don’t have the funds for them. Those kids need the extra help in school not another sport to play.

Idk, i think he might feel sorry for the guy, but i sure don't want my bathroom tore up forever!

I know, it's terribly frustrating. At least school gives these kids a chance to have the skills to make their own way. Better than nothing.

Oh no, there's no room for something PRACTICAL like personal finance. You have to take 4 freaking years of English Lit. You know, because The Grapes of Wrath takes care of that. :hmm
If a student isn't proficient in reading/writing by their junior year, the schools have failed, and remedial courses should be mandatory. Eng Lit should be an elective, like physics or music.

What is "mill rate" the way you are using it? I've never heard that before.

Yup, school is now responsible for so much more than reading-writing-and-arithmetic. The budget pie has to be cut into many more pieces, so they are all smaller.
Here, if your kid plays a sport, you have to pay fees, and it's not cheap. Meanwhile they have cut out all shop classes and drivers ed. Heaven forbid they learn a practical skill.
It's always about the money...

Morning all. Another hot day today. Have to finish the watering and then do some grocery shopping. Temps are already rising, so I better get out there. :frow

Camping, even fuzzy, those pics of the spoonbills are awesome. Where did Josie get dropped off? Is she going to boot camp?
