My sis called yesterday with a bird dilemma. Baby mourning dove hiding out in her backyard, seemed lost and unable to fly well. We talked about how to catch and keep it overnight, but she was not aggressive enough, and it ended up in the neighbor's yard.
She texted me this afternoon to say now there are two of them and the parents are coming round to feed them. Seems this is typical mourning dove behavior (according to Audubon). The babies leave the nest early and the parents continue to feed them for 1-2 weeks until they master flying. Good thing she didn't catch the first one. Nothing wrong with it after all.
