The thing is, if we use 12" tiles we have to take down all the tiles and buy new ones.

it sort of looks like you/idiot are going to have to take down a lot of tiles anyway. I know at Menards you can get ceramic floor tiles (which I used everywhere) for between a buck and 2 bucks a tile.
