Granny's gone and done it again

That looks dangerous!
Looks like something you need!

It was fine. We had no idea how many to expect, which was stressful. I was prepared to make 300 enchiladas, but I was still crocheting washcloths for the soap baskets. My helpers made the enchiladas and we got 276, enough for 138 people. That was fine until we had to set up 4 extra tables for the people who just kept coming in. We had chicken nuggets for the “kids” and someone ordered pizza for the youth groups that helped serve and hold up auction items. In a true loaves-and-fishes miracle we fed about 175 people and had five pans of enchiladas, entire pot of rice, entire tray of chicken nuggets, and three pizzas leftover.

The live auction itself raised over $10k on 32 items. Still waiting on final numbers for everything else. My five meals went for $325, and the afghan got $55 at the silent auction! Each soap basket was $40, an incredible value because there was a certificate to a local salon worth $55 in each one.

There’s no part of my body that doesn’t hurt today. But everything went just as well as it could have, and everyone who promised something actually delivered. The ladies church groups donated desserts for the meal and to be auctioned. Shipley’s gave us 2doz donuts that we put with a $20 gift card for a coffee shop. We all laughed and shrugged, but the last bid I saw on it was $50, and that was at least two bids lower than the winner.

People showed up and ate, laughed, and generously donated their time, goods, services, and money. It was a really great evening. :love
