Sarah’s dog got another bird, my australorp pullet. I told DH that the next time I see that dog outside in my yard I’m going to SSS. So he went and talked to her this time.
He reminded me that Josie killed chickens. Yes, I am aware. But I didn’t keep leaving her unattended in the yard. I actively blocked holes as she dug them, too her to the farm to train, worked with her on commands, and walloped her with dead birds. Sarah keeps leaving her dog outside because “she doesn’t want to come in.” Too bad, she’s a dog and shouldn’t get to make that decision. If my dog was killing my neighbor/friend/boss’s pets/livestock/moneypits, sure as shooting I’d have my dog under house arrest. Sarah has oral surgery last week and I know she doesn’t feel great, but she could always have asked us to just dog sit awhile.
The pullet doesn’t look good. Eyes closed and opening her beak in that gasping way. No feathers at all on her back. There are tears in her skin, but none of that looks bad. There’s a pretty deep puncture at the base of her neck. I put her in the dark bathroom with the heat on. If she’s alive in an hour, I’ll go clean her up a bit.
Sorry camping. It's very frustrating, but good on you for trying to keep the peace. Hopefully the neighbor will get the message from your DH. Hope the pullet gets better. Astrolorps are great layers... Spike is my best gal!
