I think so. I have smallish ones, so I end up using like 4 at a time. Why do you need to select the size?

By the time they are laying eggs they are big enough to eat. Then you have a choice, fried eggs or fried chicken.


I had a couple of Partridge Chanteclers, I wouldn't call them meaty. Have you considered White Rocks? They seem to be better muscled than many of my other breeds. Good layers too.

We are looking at good laying, good winter laying, good meat. Bob says if it takes 6 to 12 months to get them to butcher he is not going to care. No way that any of the other breeds will cost us as much in feed as these guys did. We had people telling us how great they were and everything. We gave in and tried them. Never again.
We had barred Rocks several years ago and were not impressed. I am not sure what breed we will end up with. We have had Faverolles, Orpingtons, Jerseys and Dorkings. Each had their pros and cons.

I hope he feels better soon. My husband gets lots of nose bleeds.

Thank you. I use to get them as a kid. Hated it. I would be fine one second and suddenly GUSH blood everywhere. I feel bad for him, cause he gets embarrassed.

Thank you. He is better today. Just a bit tired so I am making him eat his greens today. He picked spinach for lunch today. Yeah, I know I have odd duck kids. They eat veggies and fruits willingly. lol

I need feed for the quail. I don't want to go anywhere, but I need to. I guess I will just go to the local place. It would be dark coming home if I went to Martinsville , where I generally get my feed. Don't want to go on Saturday. My friend always wants 2 days notice to go anywhere. Ugh. I just want to veg and sit around, maybe take a nap.
