We have a furnace, but it's expensive, houses of this era are poorly insulated. Outside is 51, inside is 60. The damp and sitting still is why I am so cold. Should get up and do the dishes, that would warm me up! Will start a fire later.

yes, it you have the patience you can. Just the top beak and keep it even to match up w/ the bottom.

It's easy, use nail clippers. Clip off that light tip on her top beak. You can nip it a bit to shape it or even use a nail file. Don't cut into the dark yellow portion, no need. It's the same as cutting nails, keratin, and no nerves or blood vessels at the very tip.
Concrete block is great to add to the coop... they will maintain their own beaks, but she might like a little help getting started with a trim.
