Hmmm... What about the water the yaks drink? Could that be a reason you have lost a few ?

I don't think so as the creek flows thru both of my neighbor's pastures one in front and one behind me and that's all their cattle drink.

well, you have lost them in winter so not skeeters but what about fertilizers and such?

the winter were because of ice NOT being on top of the water and then mud over frozen ground. For the last 2.
