Granny's gone and done it again

only way to tell if its positive is to cut the head off. examine the brain.
Yes, but .... say a kid is playing with my dog and accidentally pulls his tail. My dog turns around and snaps at the kid in pain. Breaks the skin. Technically this is a bite. The dog did not attack the child. But legally, if the child's parent wanted to, or if the parent took the kid to the hospital, what legally has to happen is the dog has to be quarantined. If after 10 days there is no sign of rabies everything is fine and I get my dog back. You don't just cut the dog's head off because he "might" have rabies. That's all I'm saying. And especially in this case, with this dog attacking this kid so viciously, it's VERY important to know if the dog is rabid. You don't want to put the kid through rabies shots if you don't have to. The dog may be vicious, and he probably should be destroyed. But FIRST find out if it has rabies. If not, then the kid does not need the shots. If you don't know for sure, if you just shoot the dog without knowing, then the kid has to get the shots because the dog MIGHT have had rabies.

Those dogs had obvious signs of the disease. If a dog with no signs or symptoms bites someone, they quarantine it and watch for signs in case the animal is in the very early stages.
Blue. If a dog did that to your DGS and scarred him for life wouldnt you want that dog put down ? rabies or no. If a dog does it once he is more likely to repeat the behavior.

That wasnt a snap though. Half his face was destroyed. Shoot, my own dog has bit me because I accidentally hurt her. She didnt get in trouble AND she has her rabies shot. I agree its very important to know but the only way to know is by examining its brain. I know there is a 10 day waiting period and in those 10 days your kid can develop the rabies as well. Theres no coming back from that.

What we had to do with dogs that attacked someone was quarantine them, and even if they showed no signs of rabies, they were still put down due to aggressive behavior.

Thats a sad fact. Its owners fault of course.

I was bit by a GS when I was little. I wasnt bothering it I was swinging and I guess it didnt like the squeak noise. It got quarantined for the 10 days . I ended up having surgery on my neck. It got out again and attacked a girl on a bicycle . That time it was ordered to be put down. It was our dog.

Yes. Absolutely. After I know if it has rabies. Then I want to pull the trigger.
