Granny's gone and done it again

I have the real one but I am not a good fire keeper. I have to keep poking it to keep it going and that hurts my back .Then I need to wait til it goes out before I can go to bed and my sense of timing sucks as well.
So put a chair in front of the fire. Sit and poke.

Goes out?! :eek:We put a big log on before we go to bed, called a "keeper," so it will stay hot all night. Shut the draft down so it burns low and slow. In the morning throw a couple of new logs on and it will catch right up, so you don't have to start a new fire from scratch. We keep the same fire going pretty much all winter.

I have had the logs pop and crack and pieces come out on the carpet.
Ugh, last year the wood I bought had a lot of hickory, that stuff pops and snaps when you open the doors to add wood, I don't like it at all! I bought from a different supplier this year.
