Granny's gone and done it again

I used to do needlepoint when I was young.
I think I am going to make Turkey stew tonight since hubby wants to have some Monday and I am going shopping that day.
Anyone cook the chicken feet? It said to scald them and pull the membrane off. I don’t see a membrane just big scales.

was going to go a day without coffee. But nerves are wrangles, so I better put some on.

Years ago at the church I belong to back in IL had an associate pastor who was a delightful young woman who admittedly had a cappuccino habit that she decided to give up for Lent one year.

After 4 days the pastor and office secretary pushed an extra large, double strength container of cappuccino in her hand and told her to drink it. NOW! God would understand :lau because if she didn't drink it they were going to do something drastic in order to survive Lent with her.

Glad to hear that you are all okay, @BigBlueHen53. I happened to glace at the radar about 9 pm and saw a tornado warning slightly north east of Joplin. Didn't read anything on the news so figured that it hadn't done much damage. They usually don't this time of the year.

So strange having thunderstorms the middle of November. We moved to Missouri wanting to flee the Illinois government and for milder winters. People laugh when we tell them that. Truth is our average snowfall in IL was over 40 inches a year. Here it's only 22. More ice but less snow and cold. Gotta love it.

You may be able to answer a question for me concerning succulents, which I LOVE to grow. Having a house full of cats they are about the only thing that survives their teeth and claws.

Years ago I had a huge crown of thorns that had been my mothers. It outgrew my house and I donated it to the church.

Last year I got the itch to grow another one. Usually I don't have problems with succulents but the one I bought on Ebay was a headache from day one. I got it started and suddenly it started to die back. I unearthed it, bought new potting soil, washed the roots, replanted, fertilized and waited. It did great for about 6 months. Bloomed even but never grew taller than 4 or 5 inches. Suddenly, it began to die back again and this time I couldn't save it.

Any idea what happened? My Christmas cactus (more of a Thanksgiving cactus) is thriving and getting ready to bloom, my other cacti can't be killed no matter how hard I try. I want to try another crown of thorns but not until I figure out what happened. I use Miracle grow potting soil and fertilize once a month with Miracle grow.

Help? Anybody?

I’m a succulent newbie, but I’ll say everything got way better when I started using my own potting mix. I use three parts soil, two parts coarse sand (I use hermit crab sand) and one part chicken grit. Things really improved after that, especially for the echeveria.

That’s the best I’ve got. 😅
