Granny's gone and done it again

I don't believe in hitting a dog. They don't understand it; it's not in their vocabulary, as dogs don't hit each other. Hitting just teaches a dog to fear you, IMO. There are more natural ways to discipline.
I dont either Blue. Dogs will stare you down and sometimes fight and it was like Robert was showing his dominance by standing over him. It worked anyway for him. They play together all the time. He isnt afraid, he just listens.

Yikes. I used to charge $25 for each one-hour private session. Six lessons for Heel, Sit, Down, Stay, Come and Return to Heel. We also did 3 minute blind Sit-Stays and five minute blind Down-stays, and worked on behavior problems like jumping up, getting in the trash or kitty litter, charging out the front door, car issues, etc. as time allowed. I wasn't in it for the money (obviously!), I just wanted to help people enjoy their dogs, and keep dogs out of shelters ... or worse.
I used to hold dog obedience classes, in the mall our pet store was in. They let us use a vacant store.

That's good. Sammy is a somewhat dominant dog. When he needs disciplined, I grab some of the loose skin around his neck and hold him down. He hates that. Then I "growl" at him. I tell him in no uncertain terms what he did wrong and why I'm not going to put up with it and why he better straighten up and fly right or else. I keep this up in the most threatening tones until he relaxes, then I let him up. He gets up, shakes, grins, wags his tail and comes and licks me. All this is exactly the brhavior he would show a big dog that had held him down until he submitted. He "gets" it! He has come such a long way since we got him!

I taught classes for my community college as well as private lessons. The private lessons were for those who couldn't get into the classes.

I confess. Goose gets a swat when he’s being rough. Not a hit, but a swat. (The yelping thing did not work with him when he was younger. Now he’s starting to listen to uh uhs and nos but in the beginning...)
