When I was finally able to get out to check on my chickens (because of my foot), George had a black mark like charcoal across his wattles about halfway down, right about the middle of them. Now, several days later, his wattles are swollen and grey from that midpoint down. I'm so afraid he's going to lose them to frostbite. When he drinks, his wattles hang in the water, and even though we have heaters in the waterers, the water did ice over a bit. During the first 23 days of the month, it was (and stayed!) below freezing for 13 of them. I was not able to do anything about the water during that cold spell.
