Granny's gone and done it again

My GirlChild works at DQ. She just got a promo and a raise today! 😄 Blizzards all around! 🍦 Or ice cream cones anyway!
Congratulations to her. My first wife worked at a DQ back in 70 or so. I was constantly pulling through getting a soft serve cone. Have hardly done so since. Guess I burned myself out on them .

Nice Blue!

Avary, a bit of unsolicited boring adult type advice. Your mom may have a point (to an extent) - it's great to have a career you love doing, but not all careers are attainable for all people, or are enough to put food on the table. (by the way, when it comes to post secondary education, university is NOT the be all end all. Look at community colleges and trade schools) That being said...when you're young, still living at home, that's the time to explore your horizons a bit. Take the silly chances. Do some work for a groomers/trainers/boarders/etc. You're young, your chances of making over minimum wage for your first job aren't that great anyway.

AND ON THAT NOTE...edit. Every silly job can show promise to HR down the line. Fast food/retail? Oh look, customer service! That stuff comes in handy in a LOT of jobs - even internal ones. I don't deal with our external clients, but I do deal with the clowns in my office, our foremen, and various vendor's accounting peoples. When I was working in BigLaw, same thing, I knew how to please our "internal clients" (aka our lawyers). Working under pressure, following schedules, working with or without guidance, team settings, etc etc.
