That is not true. You can’t even find a purebred dog in a shelter nowadays. Only pitts mix and chi mix. Rescues come through and take any adoptable dog to rescue. You may be able to find a shephard mix. It may hav3 true years ago but not now. Just go look for yourself.

I'm not even sure we have shelters anywhere near me. St. Louis is 3 hours away. Poplar Bluff, half an hour away, won't take animals from here bc we are not in the city limits. Animals come through here from time to time. I had a stray dog kill a chicken once. Hounds run through but they don't bother the chickens. I run other stray dogs off with a vengeance. People dump kittens. This is why I advocate spay/neuter so avidly. I'm all in favor of responsible breeders, but ... too many just aren't.
I agree with you. I mean even though my breeder advocates for later altering, and there is reason for it, I tell people to base it on their life and what THEY can do. I know some doggy daycares won’t take your pup if they’re over six months and intact. If your dog can escape, if they’re more outside dogs...then yes. Spay and neuter. If you’re able to watch them like a hawk and manage them yourself, ok fine.
