Jane, I also bought a watermelon today. Havent cut or chilled it yet. I dont know how to tell if they are ripe.

Look for a nice big yellow spot on the bottom, I read in the newspaper once. Have not had a bad one since. Also it should feel heavy. I never could pick a good one by thumping it, or slapping it or any other method.

Pretty much. Still have to make that pie. Made some black cherry Knox blocks. Real firm gelatin squares. Fun and yummy.

I bought a cantaloupe too . I know its ripe cause it smells like butt.
