Everyone should have at least 2 weeks worth of food on hand. And drinking water. You never know when stores may have slow downs on food and other goods.

Our church says a years worth. You kind of need to build that up gradually.

Well, some folks live day to day. So two weeks worth is an improvement. I would love to have a years worth! We really don't have space for it.

For most it's whatever you can store.

I remember seeing a TV program where a guy who lived in an apartment said there is no excuse for people saying I don't have the room. Then he took the crew around and showed where he had stored food in his small apartment, completely out of sight. It was amazing.
