Do you cook poke, Granny? How do you cook it?

just like any other green. Just the leaves and picked when there young. they can be poison if prepared wrong.

That's awesome. A guy a few blocks down from us cut a tree down, left a large stump, stump now has a good size tree growing from the middle of it.

It gave me a real belly ache the one time I tried it. But that may have been my bile duct acting up. In any case I have not tried it the second time.

Some people boil it, throw away the water, boil it again, throw that water away too, then fry it with butter or oil, bacon and onions. Seems a lot like work to me.

I get my sister's remains on Thursday morning! I'm so glad this is finally happening. I need to call the cemetery tommorow to set up a time for burial.

1. Remove pokeweed leaves from plant.
2. Rinse pokeweed leaves in cool water.
3. Bring leaves to rolling boil in large pot for 20 minutes.
4. Pour leaves into sieve and rinse in cool water.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 two more times.
6. Panfry pokeweed leaves for a couple of minutes in bacon grease.
7. Add crushed bacon, salt, and pepper to taste.
8. Serve and enjoy.
