Granny's gone and done it again

Morning all.

We are finally getting a break in the colder than usual for us weather we have been having. A few days of temps in the 50s which we will enjoy immensely. We went for a walk in the timber yesterday. There has been a wild Tom turkey hanging around that we have seen on our game camera. I love wild turkeys.

Something weird happened to us twice in recent months, the latest occurrence yesterday when DH rode his dirt bike down to a neighboring Amish hardware store. One of the sons of owner of the store basically asked him what we were planning to do with our property when we moved. DH blinked at him and said, we aren't planning to move. Several months earlier the neighbor next door (non Amish) said that if we get ready to sell, let them know. I said the same thing. We aren't moving anywhere. Geeze I'm still unpacking totes from the big move 8 years ago.

I told DH yesterday during our walk that frankly, I believed that taking care of our 29 acres and hard work was what was keeping us challenged and still going as we rolled into our 70s. Without it we would become fat, sedentary old people.

Virtual run? Only if I can virtually run with a bag of chips and a Big Gulp soft drink. I can't run anymore but hey I can speed walk with the best of them.

@grannyhatchet hang in there. I know how rough that can be. :hugs

I've had people tell me about bucks with huge racks that would get down on their knees and work their antlers and bodies under thickets to get to a good bedding spot for the day. They saw them do it and they were astounded. I once saw a deer run across the road in front of me while riding my bike back in IL, jump into a corn field, Run about a hundred feet into the field of knee high corn, lie down and completely disappear. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own two eyes. They are really amazing creatures.

Here's our Tom Turkey that is lurking around the woods.

It's good to see them back. We have had flocks too numerous to count in our front yard and pasture. Once the dogs were at the front windows barking. Looked. Nothing. They kept barking, went back to the window and watched. Finally saw what they were barking at. Our house sits higher than the front road. There is a fence at the top of the slope and then between the fence and road tall grass. There were turkey heads popping out of the grass like somebody was playing whack a mole with them. Funny to watch.

Unfortunately conservation dept told us that the locals like to poach them whenever they get a chance so the numbers are down. I'm hopeful since we aren't hunting our property the birds will start using it as a 'safe zone' and stick around.

Our neighbor asked hubby if he could put ip game cams. He let him. Next he wanted to hunt here. ( he has 30+ acres, we have 13). Um, no. The whole point is to have it restful and quiet, not a shooting range. And then he would want to hunt every year.
