Granny's gone and done it again

picked up 16 bags of layer today. price has gone up another 50 cents a bag from November 29 of last year.
I feel like, thankfully the locally mill stuff hasn't gone up much in comparison to purina but it still makes me cringe each time.

wonder what would go onto growing your own? You could do sunflowers.

thanks but I have enough "jobs" already.

I have an egg customer who brings me ALL the stale/expired bread from the food pantries for the hens. About a pick up box full a month or so. If I ever decide to roast one of my hens they will already have bread stuffing/dressing. LOL

what chickens do you have now?
I have on our property two accidentally projects. Two flocks that basically kept to themselves and are naturally breeding into their own things. We got some meat birds last year and turkens but they really never integrated with the two main flocks and we're planning to hard cull this year. Mississippi NPIP requirements include being able to test majority of birds (if I want to show this is required)

My accidentally project flocks I been meaning to preen the unwanted traits anyway. Though one I need to get a new rooster to keep the more gamey body type, plans are to get them each their own coops to hopefully be trained to return to at night. Lemme upload photos of the front flock experiment

Its not hard to plant sunflowers. Just chop the heads off when there ripe and toss them in. Good high protein for winter too
