My Austin has them, like his dad. One hurt..right in the area he would put his arm down on something. Got sore so he had it taken out. Just the one, he has more but they don't bother him.

A lady and her husband are coming to pick pears. I don't can but I do want some left on the tree to pick when I want one. It isn't going to freeze for a while so it will be fine to leave them. They're actually still hard. They get ripe pretty quick when they are put on the counter.
