Rib fractures take a little longer to heal than other bones because they are continuously moving. A rib fracture can take up to 12 weeks to heal. "The natural progression for healing is for small improvements in pain and breathing over time.

Have you tried any of the creams that have lidocaine in them? Might help. I am a big believer in a soak in hot bath water for at least 30 minutes, sometimes an hour.
You should also do deep breathing regularly. People with broken ribs tend to breathe shallowly and can develop pneumonia.

Yes I take deep breaths. My nurse/wife reminds me frequently. I'm so glad I don't have to use one of those contraptions they give you to suck air into post surgeries. If I had a walk in tub I'd be in it for hours at a time. We investigated getting one but 10k for the tub and the install was not in the budget yet. I do have a bottle of lidocaine cream. Generic from Walgreens. Thanks for your concerns and thinking about us.

I have a 5 gal. with one small guppy then a 20 and a 40 gal that have fish. the rest of them has been gifted out.

aww, rhank you Larry. I have a clean record as well. Its just their rules. I think you can expect to be down with the ribs being broken for a while. a couple months maybe. Cap?

It does seem to take forever to heal. Very annoying. I think it depends on which and how many ribs are broken and which type of fracture it is.
I once had a spiral fracture in my toe, I ended up pulling on it and setting it myself. Hoping I never have that type of fracture again!

I hate wishing my life away but I can't help but with this was over with. I'm watching the clock because I get another PP in 3 hours. Need it now but know I must wait. I take one every 8 hours now. I hope Pain Mgt will know what to do. I'm afraid of going out and falling again before my ribs are healed. They are in the upper area near the shoulder blade. I don't know if that makes them harder to heal or easier. I've never in all my years had a broken bone before. Why couldn't I have had a broken arm in a cast with all the signatures on it in grade school and been done with bone breaks.

I broke both my legs once. I jumped off a bridge into a dry creek bed. I actually started walking home but after a few steps was crawling and by the time I got there I was pulling myself by my arms. I must of been around 9 yrs. old.
