Granny's gone and done it again

Richard just sent this message to me.

I've got home health care finishing up with me right now with my foot. They say everything looks good so far as healing goes. I have my first appointment with wound clinic tomorrow morning.

I was worried about infection but I guess those antibiotics work really well! Plus they gave me antibiotic spray today plus antibiotic bandaging. Plus my insurance completely covers the visits AND any supplies they have I can use for free. Pretty nice!

Why a harness. I don’t use them. To me they teach the dog to pull more.
Interesting. I just watched a short clip from a guy I started watching who owned a female Doberman. You may have heard of Rubydoo. She passed. He now has a male named Bruce. His video today showed him walking his dog..intact..with a prong collar. He says, I know, controversial. But he's not food driven enough or praised driven while walking. His attention is out ~ there! Squirrels, birds, other dogs. For both their safety he uses this. You have to know this guy. He's trained his dogs until you would think they understand every single human word. It really is up to how the dog reacts. I have a harness for Cooper, he's also ~ out there! The harness actually works well with him. I didn't have to go to the prong. My Gracie and Bella walk well with a regular collar.

Nancy is coming to take me to the er.
Bless Nancy! I'm glad you're going.

Regarding the ancient jar of blackberry preserves...
Before you open the jar, press down on the center of the lid. If the "button" pops up and down it means the seal has been broken and I would not eat it. Likewise, if there's any sign the jelly has leaked out, toss it.

If the jar is still sealed properly, the center of the lid will be sucked down, and you won't be able to pop it up and down it until after you open it.

If it's been sealed properly all this time, AND it was made properly (boiled hot enough to kill any germs) AND it  looks and  smells good (not moldy or frothy looking), then I would take a tiny taste and see if it's worth the worry.

The biggest fear in canning is botulism, which is very rare these days. The bacteria that causes it is all around... it's in the soil. We might ingest small amounts that don't harm us. (The exception to this is young children who have no immunity. That's why you don't give honey to kids under 1yr.) In the right conditions (like improperly canned veggies) the Botulinum bacteria can produce toxins. But it does not live in acidic environments, so you are safe from that with blackberries.
