well sounds like their eating all the right thingsAll the hens producing those eggs are free ranging daily. We also give them the leaves of alfalfa hay when there's not a lot of grass available.

Good idea. Most of our chickens have access to a barnyard that also has horses and goats. The chickens sure seem to like scratching through the horse turds. As soon as it is dry enough to till the ground I want to plant a block of alfalfa, red clover, and pasture grass for the free ranging chickens here to feed on instead of just grass that they have now.
I'm thinking about ordering some dandelion seed to sow to because they will grow in all conditions and chickens love them.Good idea. Most of our chickens have access to a barnyard that also has horses and goats. The chickens sure seem to like scratching through the horse turds.
We ave lots of dandelions growing wild. They eat some of the leaves, but it seems my chickens prefer the grass. They like Lambsquarter and Ragweed as well. A hay field would be a chickens dream for summertime forage.I'm thinking about ordering some dandelion seed to sow to because they will grow in all conditions and chickens love them.
I don't have to plant them here. All I have to do is walk outside in the springtime, and say the word "lawn" and dandelions automatically spring up everywhere.I'm thinking about ordering some dandelion seed to sow to because they will grow in all conditions and chickens love them.
