Granny's gone and done it again

We are expecting between 4 and 8 inches, I think. It might be raining now snd supposed to continue till about 5 p.m. tomorrow. We could have flooding. Possible GC won't be able to get home from work tomorrow night until the rain runs off. 😟

An entire apartment complex burned down early this morning, displacing a number of people. Very few got any of their belongings, it went so quick. Now the city has already demolished the remaines.
What? Without determining the cause?

How many of you have an emergency generator or inverter? And if you do, what make/model do you have. What fuel do you use. Pros and cons? There are so many on the market, it takes forever to decide. I'm looking at Mid size, not whole house
We rarely have power outages here, but we bought a gas one a few years ago to take camping. We go remote places and it's pretty quiet. We also justified it for keeping me typing on my computer if I had work due as they aren't very forgiving. If the power were to be out for any length of time though, he'd hook it up to the fridge upstairs and run a cord downstairs for the freezer.

He's looking at making a breaker in the panel just for the generator but I'm not sure what he's talking about so I'd have to have him explain that if you wanted to know.

It could also come in handy if we get a polar vortex again and the power goes out as our coop is heated to 40F. The chickens would be okay if it dropped to zero, but I wouldn't want them to be in any lower than that so we'd hook it up to the coop.
