Granny's gone and done it again

No, her head is too hard! No offense, Granny.

You guys do not understand autism. These people do not perceive the world the same way "we" do. You can't just say he "should" do this or that. Or he could if he tried harder or if he really wanted to. He truly can't, just like you or I can't fly like a bird. His reality is different from ours. He may want to drive, or help, or hold down a job. But he ... it's like ... he lives in a different dimension that only occasionally melds into ours. That's why he gets lost even when he's close to home. He can only perceive what's right around him, right now, and it doesn't ralate to the rest of the world. At all.

I don't know if I'm explaining this well at all. My DH is mildly autistic. And so is my Kid. The DH more so than the Kid, actually. So I have a little insight into it.
This is true. I guess we should not offer suggestions as we don’t know the situation. I am sure granny will work it out, she always does.

You explained it right. Spot on. You only expect a person with a broken arm to do what they can. Autism is a different disability then a broken arm. But it's still the same, you can't force them to do something that they are not able to do with their disability. Each person with autism has different capabilities. Their loved ones know their limits

Granny, have you considered hospice? Hospice isn't always ends of life. My cousin did home care like that. I don't know if your area has that service. And they make it affordable for you. They have access to a lot of different levels of care. They can give you tips in care that makes caring for Tom easier. And they can point you into the right direction where you can get help if they aren't the answer. They are very beneficial and can help you attain other things that can make his life safer and easier. It would not hurt to give then a call and talk with someone.
There is a lot of help available if we know where to look ......I know out of experience. I care for DH

I've mentioned this to her. I used it for my husband. They explained just that, it isn't always for end of life. In fact these folks had reupped to two years before. We didn't pay for anything. SS did. In Utah. Wouldn't hurt to check.

Good idea, that may be a good option. Worth looking into!
