Granny's gone and done it again

Howdy Howdy everybody.

We have a heat advisory tomorrow. 90 when it's 112 in Abilene sounds like a chilly day. It's only 76 here right now but we had rain showers pass through earlier along with clouds and it's keeping the temp down.

Yesterday DH and I went down and whittled some more off of Big Bertha. So far we have harvested 15 tractor buckets full of wood off of her and have a sizeable pile to show for our hard work in the barn. This on top of the 17 cords we already have stuffed in there. Good thing we don't have animals living in there.

Did two loads of laundry then decided to start mowing with the gas mower trying to get a jump on the finishing work before DH could run the tractor with the 3 point hitch mower over the yard. Then helped DH change the transmission/hydraulic fluid in the big tractor. Got done in time to make dinner.

Then I get up this morning and wonder why I'm so stiff sore and tired. Still can't figure it out this afternoon, LOL.
Sounds like you won't run short on wood this winter. Seems like 17 cords would last most folk through a couple of winters.

Pert, if you spent one winter here you would understand why we have 17 cords of wood...plus.

November and December aren't too bad. A little snow, a little off and on cold. You look outside and think, hmmmmm maybe this is as bad as it's going to get this year. Then January hits and the wind chill is -25 and the snow is piled up to the windows in the coop and DH is having to plow a trail for me so I can get out there with hot water and heat lamps for the chickens so they don't turn into birdsicles and yep, NOW it's winter and I know why we have 17 cords of wood in the barn because we are tossing it in the fireplace at warp speed!

It's been tougher this year but we gotter done. We just want to get as much of Bertha harvested as we can as she fell over a small stream and we are trying to get as much of her bulk chain sawed before she gets frozen down until the big thaw in February and March.

I guess I'll keep my scorching plains over your frozen tundra. Sounds nice in the summer but I just couldn't handle all that snow.

I swapped the snow for Ice storms coming from Mi. We get snow too but not like Mi. does. Of course I didn't live here in 78

This car was nearly buried by snow in Indiana's Blizzard of 1978. The Blizzard of 1978 hit Indiana from January 25-27, 1978 with over 20 inches of snow. Snow drifts reached heights of over 10 feet and a snow emergency was declared for the state as well at the city of Indianapolis. January 31, 1978.

What does your therapist say about this?
I haven’t talked to her today. But she knows and says I need to cut back on the caffeine, she’s been telling me that a while as has everyone else and I haven’t yet, and that’s really it. And working on coping skills and stuff.

The thing is, we get half the snow here that we used to get in Illinois. Average here is something like 22 to 25" per year. In Illinois it was something close to 50 inches.

People asked us why we moved here and we laugh and tell them it was for the mild winters. We do get more ice here than we did in Illinois though although the past two winters have seen more snow than ice. Frankly I'll take the snow over ice any day of the week. Usually January is our coldest month then it starts to moderate a bit in February.

Hottest we have seen it here was 107 or 108 in 2012 when we were putting in electricity. Heat index was in the teens.

Have to admit I love wood heat. Or rather my arthritis loves the wood heat. We talk about putting in LP and besides the expense and having a wealth of firewood for the harvesting, I honestly don't think we would be happy with gas heat in any form. Even if we had it we would probably just use it for backup overnight when it is really cold.

Can you just quit buying it? That’s how I got off soda.
